Ever since I joined many groups on FB related to Consulting & Coaching — I have noticed the following trend.
In each of these groups there are these few individuals make TALL claims & throw around BIG numbers like:
- I was hardly earning enough to pay my bills but today I am earning 7-figure income per month
- The clients I worked with were earning $2000 per month but today are earning $17,000 per month
- My students have made in total over $XX Million USD over the past X years.
- I have worked with brands and doubled, tripled or even increased their revenue 7 times over.
- 16-year old with zero business experience telling me — I have been dealing with only high-ticket clients and helping them double their income
WHAT YOU REALIZE
Now the funny thing is — when you get in touch with them you realize — all these individuals were doing was advertising themselves as larger than life simply to get you to book an hour session with them or buy/subscribe their course or service.
The problem is — in today’s day and age where creating a website, putting in fancy words, exchanging some recommendations between friends & advertising yourself online is as simple as 1–2–3 — anyone and everyone can do it. And once you find out that they are practicing the “fake-it-till-you-make-it” policy, you respectfully thank them for their time and move on. So there you do not have a problem.
SO WHERE IS THE PROBLEM?
However, when you see them constantly trying to use this strategy with others — especially those who are new or young — what should you do?
Mind your own business?
Or do you caution others?
In fact, the funny thing is — when you ask these people to prove their claims (I helped my clients from generating $2,000 to $17,000 a month OR me and my students made $40 million) — they will tell you that this is confidential information or that results may vary.
So what do you generally do with such individuals?
WHY AM I ASKING FOR YOUR OPINION
The reason I ask is that I was approached by 2 people who subscribed to such characters. And they asked me what did I think about them — if they were legit or fake. And I told them what I believed was the truth.
But then I was asked — why wasn’t I warned the others or informing the moderators or admin of the group? And my response was — I didn’t have hardcore evidence to prove my stance and that I wasn’t interested in being the vigilante to save mankind — as I myself had enough on my plate.
So what do you think should be done?
What would you do in this regard?
What is your opinion with regards to such individuals who make such tall claims?
Being a member of this group, I would be very interested to know your answers as even I seek to add value to the community.
